Car Description

The Bentley Arnage is available in three styles: Arnage T, Arnage R and the longer-wheelbase Arnage RL, which is essentially a touring limousine. While the Arnage T is one of the most powerful road cars in Bentley's 84-year history, the Arnage RL is at the very opposite end of the spectrum as it offers unparalleled opulence. In the middle of the lineup is the Arnage R, a car that carries on the tradition of the Arnage Red Label and opts for refinement over power, but still offers plenty of both. Unique 19-inch wheels are standard on the Arnage T.

All Arnage models come with the same 6.75-liter, twin-turbo V8. In the Arnage T, that power plant is good for 450 horsepower and an astonishing 645 pound-feet of torque. The Arnage R and RL offer slightly less power at 400 hp and a still impressive 615 lb-ft of torque. As expected, the power delivery is seamless; although, the automatic transmission occasionally takes too much time to make up its mind.

The Bentley Arnage features stability control, traction control, side and head airbags for front and rear passengers, front and rear parking sensors, four-wheel ABS, engine immobilizer and child safety-seat anchors.

Bentley offers a very high level of customization in each Arnage. Cabins can be furnished in a classic English fashion with lots of wood and leather, or a more modern approach can be taken with such features as a DVD entertainment system, personal computer with wireless keyboard, television set and a host of audio systems, including multi-CD changers and an MP3 player. Even in the normal length-wheelbase trim, the Arnage offers more than ample hip-, leg- and headroom. The rear seats are living-room comfortable and the front seats offer equal comfort with a bit of support added.

Given its nearly three-ton girth, the 2005 Bentley Arnage is surprisingly nimble and athletic. This car corners with all the verve of a much smaller sedan. The Arnage, especially the T, handles any kind of input from the driver so well that it's easy to forget the battleshiplike dimensions being tossed around. Acceleration is downright impressive, but then again, more than 600 lb-ft of torque has a way of making anything feel quick. On the open highway, the Arnage has a stately feel that one would expect of an ultraluxury car. There is little road noise, but some wind noise does make its way into the cabin.
